Local MP supports new efforts to cut suicides amongst students and young people

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Sat 19th May 2007

North Southwark and Bermondsey MP Simon Hughes this week attended the launch of a new suicide prevention resource for universities and colleges by PAPYRUS, the national charity dedicated to prevention of young suicide.

Commenting, Mr Hughes said:

"From experience of family, friends and community I know the extreme pressure that young people feel when at college and university.

"This new resource from PAPYRUS should help people to know how to respond and to give appropriate professional support.

"Sadly pressure on young people generally, and young students in particular, will go on increasing. It is important that PAPYRUS, its friends and supporters are there to help take the strain."
