Canada Water Action Plan

A number of local people have contacted me about the Canada Water Area Action Plan, a Southwark Council consultation document asking for views on which aspects of Rotherhithe and Surrey Docks they wish to see improved and putting forward some potential solutions. I have been pressing the council to make decisions about the future of our local area and I will be responding to the consultation on the 'Issues and Options' which closes on February 20th, and also at the second stage of the consultation which is due to open for 6 weeks in April or May this year. Before I do I would like to hear from you. The document covers very important issues such as tackling congestion on Jamaica Road, Lower Road and the large section of the network around Surrey Quays tube and the Hawkstone Estate; building heights around Canada Water and Surrey Quays tube stations; the location of a new secondary school for local children; the future of the shopping centre and the types of shops that are in it; and improvements to Southwark Park and Seven Islands Leisure Centre. The council has put forward two options to make the document more straightforward to understand. These options are a starting point and in no way the two preferred conclusions. I have also been informed that residents can pick and choose from both lists in the document as well as being encouraged to put forward their own ideas.
